Welcome to the 2004 HVA Spring Classic Tournament page
Again this year, we'll be hosting the best volleyball teams in the boys division in the State of Texas. Our 4th annual Spring Classic is the first stop in the Boys Tour around the state. We'll see teams from Dallas, San Antonio, and, of course, Houston.
VENUE:
This year, we're proud to upgrade our facilities to those of St. Johns School right in the heart of Houston. This multi-million dollar sports complex has been home to the Houston Volleyball Academy for 3 years. Its located on the Southeast Corner of Buffalo Speedway and Westheimer.
PARKING:
St. Johns School will simultaneously be hosting a large track and field event. Therefore, parking will be limited on campus. It is recommended that you park on the East side of the Athletic Complex in the Lamar High School Parking lot and walk through the fence gate and into the south entrance of the gym. If for some reason, that parking lot is full there is more parking available another block East of the Lamar HS campus. Please warn your spectators and players of this potential so that they can more easily find a parking space.

SCHEDULE:
We'll play
the standard round robin format within the pool. The 5 team pools play 2 games to 25. Each team is guaranteed at
least 3 matches. The top two teams will play a one match playoff (2 of 3 to
25/25/15). Naturally, all tie breakers will follow USAV rules.
Warm-up format will mirror that of the JOVC. It will be 2 minutes of shared ball
handling followed by 4 minutes of court time by each team separately. Any
serving must be done within the four minutes. This is commonly referred to as a
2-4-4 format.
REGISTRATION FEES:
Registration Fees will be due at the coach's meeting at 8:00am. The registration fee is $135 per team payable to HVA.
AWARDS:
We are glad to offer 10 T-shirts to each of the top two teams in each pool. The t-shirts will be white and have the tourney logo (above) on the Front. The older division winners will be given 4XL and 5L and 1 M sizes while the younger age division will be given 3 XL and 5L and 2 M sizes.
HOSPITALITY SUITE:
As usual, we will be offering a hospitality suite that will feature coffee and doughnuts in the morning and sandwiches and drinks in the afternoon. Please note that only the officials and the coaches for active teams participating at this tourney will be permitted in the suite. The Suite will be located in the Traditions Room which is perched above gyms complex and looks down on the courts.
OFFICIALS:
As usual,
HVA only selects the most qualified of officials. Our referees this year are Thang
Nguyen and Tony Charles.
Thang is an NCAA National Official who officiated the NAIA National
Championships in San Diego this year and is a National Referee Candidate within
USA Volleyball this year. Thang is also an International Scorekeeper and has
served in that capacity for many of the Men's USA Team's matches in the USA and
Mexico.
Tony is an accomplished NCAA Official and one of the most sought after
USA Officials. Tony is a favorite at the Davis Volleyball Festival and regularly
is invited to participate in the NCAA's post season competition. Tony has
officiated boys matches in Texas for about 10 years and is known as one of the
most fair and likeable officials in the country.
