and knowledge. HVA has assembled the very best boys volleyball coaching
staff in this region of the US.

Sean
Carter
Personal
Info
Sean
married his wife, Jean, in February 2000 and has two children, Jackson
and Addison. They live in the Clear Lake area. Sean also works in
Christian youthministry in the CL area. Sean
graduated with degrees in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering from
UT Austin in 1990 and he works for NASA on the new Constellation Program. After graduating
from UT and moving to Houston in 1990, Sean set out to
establish boys volleyball in the area. He has worked with
players that went on to earn Olympic Gold Medals, NCAA Division I
National Championships, and various levels of success throughout the
landscape of collegiate volleyball. More importantly, many of them have
become great husbands, fathers, and college graduates.
Philosophy
"I
believe that team sports are a microcosm of life, and that players can
learn critical life skills as well as the lessons about themselves that
will equip them for the road ahead. Coaching is a lofty and influential
role in the life of a young man that I covet. In the end, our players go
on to be adults in a pretty tough world. I Intend to help them prepare
for just that. I love it when so many of my former players return to
practices and come back and coach. But the lifelong friendships that
I've formed with so many players is my favorite part about coaching."

Mike
is currently moving from Chicago back home to Houston as
the
Operations Manager / Marketing Director for Luxury Motors.com. We
are thrilled to have him back on
our coaching staff. Mike is newly married to his wife Mary. He is
graduate of the University of Houston with a bachelor degrees in
Marketing and Management with a focus in international business. Over
the course of his playing career Mike was a standout right side hitter
player for Coach Carter. Although
he had the option to play collegiate ball, he decided instead to pursue
a music scholarship.
As life moves along, Mike plays at a high level in
mens divisions now and you'll see him playing right side still at the
National Championships.
Philosophy
‘The
greatest good a coach can do is help a player reach his potential, not
only as an athlete, but as a person.
I think that volleyball is a great vehicle for equipping players
with the skills and processes that will enable them to be successful
leaders both on and off the court..’

Matt
is engaged to be married to longtime sweetheart LeAnn and living in Clear Lake. He is the director at Vector Marketing in the Clear
Lake Area. Matt recently graduated from the University of Houston with a
business management degree. He is now pursuing a masters degree in
Humanities and Human Performance. Matt played volleyball for Coach Carter at Clear lake High
through 1994. He was recognized as the most improved player and given
the team leadership award. Later he was named to the all city JO team
that went to nationals in 1995. He later played at the University of
Illinois as a right side hitter.
Philosophy
"Any
player has the capability to be great. Most of the time they don't
realize how great they can be. I like the challenge to bring that out in
them. My philosophy is to have new players break out of their shell and
grow into a leader. Establish players need to test their limits. I want
them to feel confident and feel like they are bulletproof. That
confidence in themselves will take them to new limits!"

Andy Strickler

Andy was married on October 26th, 2002 to his longtime
girlfriend Amber. Andy works in the medical field.
Andy has attended the University of Houston at Clear Lake and earned
the following degrees Bachelor of Biological Science-2000, Master of
Biological Science-2001.
Andy played volleyball for Coach Carter at Clear lake High through 1995.
He led his team to nationals on the Club Texas 18 and under team in
1995. He was given a scholarship to play at Park College where he was a
starting and dominant middle blocker. As we've seen in a few men's
tourneys recently, he still has the ability to take over tourneys. Today
he plays occasionally in beach tourneys.
Philosophy
"I believe the fundamental principles that are necessary to
succeed in life are best instilled into young adults though organized
team sport. Teamwork, communication, respect for your peers as well as
yourself, and achievement through success and failure are lessons that
are crucial to prosper in one's life. Organized volleyball allows a
platform in which kids today can experience many different levels of
these key lessons in a "controlled" environment, helping them
to prepare for the life that awaits them."

Ray Throckmorton

Info
Ray is starting his coaching career with us this year. He was a 4
year player for HVA and was one of the most committed players each of
those years. Ray is very passionate and loves the game. He is also very
detail oriented and has learned the game from the ground up and
understands exactly how to communicate the skills to the players using
the HVA training system. He currently is a student a Rice University and
plays on their Mens Volleyball Team.

Eric Wooldridge
Personal
Info
Eric is single and a graduate of Quincy
University where he played scholarship volleyball for the mens program
as their setter for four years. Eric started his Professional Volleyball
Career as the setter for a team in Slovenia in 2008. He played so well
he was picked up by a higher level Pro team in Denmark in 2009 and is
already being recruited for a German team who plays in the highest Pro
league with all of the Olympians from around the world. His ultimate
goal is the USA Mens National and Olympic team as a setter. At 6'6", he
has a good shot. The off-season coincides nicely with the heart of our
HVA Club season giving us a great opportunity to have Eric comes back
onto the coaching staff each year, equipped with the latest training
techniques. We can't imagine a better setting coach for the boys in the
State of Texas.
